A La Mode Photo: Preserving All the Moments That Matter

By Marina I. Jokic

Owner of A La Mode Photo Heather Hart has been photographing professionally for the last 15 years, traveling to L.A., San Diego, Orange County, and Malibu. Capturing significant moments in people's lives such as maternity, weddings, and family events, Hart carries a genuine affinity for being a part of someone's life for a few hours.

"I love working with people and getting to share in their stories and special life moments," said Hart. "I am a very visual person so I am always looking at people and situations as pictures."

In fact, Hart has found that photography has influenced her perception, making her more observant and detail-oriented. Catching a glimpse of a fleeting smile or a heartfelt moment between two people can make a stunning photo if caught in the right time and lighting. Being savvy with the camera also requires taking risks, invading people's personal space at times in a seamless way and knowing how to elicit the right emotions.

"I only do one shoot a day, and I spend a lot of time with each client understanding their story and unique situation," Hart said. "I have a great reputation, and every one of my clients returns over the years [so] I work very hard to ensure that all of my clients are more than happy."

Simply put, Hart describes the essence of her job as creating everlasting memories. Evergreen photographs usually portray meaningful moments such as an intimate engagement ceremony, the exchange of vows at a wedding, or a mother-to-be in the loving embrace of her husband. Those are the leitmotifs Hart gets to shoot on a daily basis.

"I like to say that I create memories that last a lifetime so I would say my style is everlasting," she said. "But I like to see the joy in every situation, so maybe the best description I can give [of my style] is joyful."

Hart likes to shoot in the great outdoors whenever possible, capturing her clients against awe-inspiring backgrounds of lush greenery, waterscapes, or a famous California sunset. With each session, Hart brings her unique vision of photography which focuses on inner beauty and using the natural environment to her advantage.

Thanks to Hart's unique vision, she was recently invited to photograph Herb Albert at a benefit performance for the Alzheimer's Association. A La Mode Photo has been selected multiple times by Red Tricycle's Top Photographer's List and featured in "Good Morning America" as one of the top pregnancy photographers in the nation. Other television appearances by Hart include CBS' "The Early Show" and "The Dr. Phil Show" where she discussed her maternity photographs.

"Part of the experience I provide for my clients in creating beautiful images is to design one-of-a kind wardrobes for my pregnancy sessions," Hart said. "My pregnant clients are always so excited to come to their photo shoot because I am a stylist and magician all in one?I tailor every outfit to an individual's form."
