April Rocha Photography Celebrates Life and Its Special Moments

By Pamela Sosnowski

Santa Monica-based photographer April Rocha remembers the defining moment when she decided to leave her entertainment job as a talent agent to pursue her love of photography.

"When 9/11 occurred I came to the realization that I didn't want to work in the entertainment industry anymore," she said. "I realized how short and precious life can me. Just because you love films, television and theatre doesn't mean you need to be in it to still love it."

Today, Rocha's career focuses on preserving life's most defining moments, including engagements, weddings, and welcoming a new member to the family. Since launching her own photography studio, April Rocha Photography, she has won a WeddingWire Bride's Choice Award and been a featured photographer on The Knot, a popular wedding planning website.

Her experience in the arts has also give her a knack for shooting headshots for actors and business executives, a trait she picked up on while viewing thousands of them during her earlier career.

"I know exactly what I wanted in a headshot when I was an agent, both finished 8x10 headshots and contact sheets from an actor's photo session," she said. "I know what I think translates well to agents and casting directors."

Rocha also works as a fine art photographer and has displayed her work in art galleries across the country. She has worked on several corporate clines including the Getty Museum, Anthropologie, and the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs. Corporate events are also a part of her portfolio; she has worked events for notable brands including Cartier, Nestle, and ASCAP (the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.)

But people remain her favorite subject, and no matter what kind of event she is shooting, she gives her full undivided attention to each subject and knows how to put people at ease. She meets with each client ahead of time to review the details of the event.

"I treat each wedding as a completely different experience and I try to be very organic with how I photograph it," she said. "I'm not shooting a wedding so it can be in a magazine to help my business or take instagram photos that day; I am 100% there for you and only you."

Rocha's studio can also provide the hottest new trend in photography, photo booth rentals. She supplements the booth with props, backdrops, and the equipment to print the images on-site. Photo booths are versatile, bringing hands-on selfie fun to any event including birthday parties, fundraisers, weddings, and more. In addition to online images, clients can purchase quality printed photos and opt to have albums made. Rocha works with several online print shops and offers exclusive discount codes to clients.

Rocha regularly receives five star reviews online, where clients rave about her professionalism and ability to capture hidden moments during weddings that no one else noticed. No wedding is too big or small for her, and she can travel to destination ceremonies if her schedule allows. She offers several pricing packages for each subject of photography. For portrait photography, she can shoot at a beautiful house and garden location in Santa Monica, or at the client's location of choice.
