Bacon's Best Friend: Slater's 50/50

Sterling Doak, VP of Marketing, puts it best when he says, "Slater's 50/50 is the restaurant version of a 'man cave.'" The restaurant has a casual and energetic environment - sports on the many televisions, over 100 beers on tap in most locations, and, according to Doak, "kick-ass food, service and atmosphere."

Slater's began in 2009 and now has seven locations. It is growing rapidly and there is a reason. What is the 50/50? Well, it is Slater's combination of two beautiful things: beef and bacon. Honestly, anything mixed with bacon is amazing, but founder, Scott Slater, decided to make a burger patty which was 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon. From there, the options grew and the Slater's crew began to churn out varieties of burger that keep guests coming back for more.

Besides the famous 50/50, Doak shares two other popular options: "One of the burgers that put us on the map was our 'Merica BOM (Burger Of the Month). It's 100% ground bacon patty, Sriracha bacon, bacon jam, bacon American cheese, fried mac N' cheese, tomato, field greens between bacon pretzel buns?Another favorite is our Peanut Butter and Jealousy - the seemingly odd mix of PB&J matched up with 100% Brandt beef is actually an instant classic. One try and people become believers."

Each patty is weighed after being cooked to make sure it is the proper amount of burger ordered. The beef is from Brandt Beef - The True Natural, which is a family owned, Southern California producer dedicated to hormone-free beef.

One of the cool options available at Slater's is the Design It menu. You choose the pound, the main meat (or veggie), bread, cheese, toppings, Over-The-Top-It, then sauce it. Over-The-Top-It is a variety of extra toppings including beer battered onion rings, avocado mash, fried egg, fried dill pickle chips, and even alligator andouille. The possibilities are virtually endless and give you the opportunity to try something new each time you visit.

If you are more traditional, you can stick to the menu which offers a variety of wings, Mac N' Cheese, greens, and pre-designed burgers. The Favorites menu has Fried Chicken & Mancakes, Spicy Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, Pittsburgh Pastrami and more!

Aside from bacon and burgers, Slater's is famous for one other thing: Craft Beer. Slater's 50/50 touts the best restaurant beer program in the country; a deep, craft beer selection featuring over 100 taps in most locations from mostly local breweries. And don't forget to try Slater's drink selections as well. Ever had a Bacon Mary (Vodka) or Bacon Old Fashioned (Bourbon)? Didn't think so. If you don't want to branch out to bacon infused alcohol, there is a variety of other whiskeys, bourbons, vodkas, and wines to choose from.

Since we are mentioning bacon, Slater's has been featured on Travel Channel's Bacon Paradise and Discovery Channel's United States of Bacon. Enough bacon yet? Never. Go ahead and enjoy some of 50/50's Famous Bacon Brownie and top it off with a Mable Bacon Signature Milkshake.
