Bader Howar Photography Shines In Santa Monica, California

By Paul Rowe

Bader Howar is no stranger to the acting scene in Hollywood. Originally, she was an actress there working part time for a master printer for one of the most renowned photographic labs in Los Angeles. During her time there, her passion shifted from acting to the enduring art of photography.

"While working there I was inspired by images taken by some of the city's leading fashion and music photographers," Howar said. "Having been a theatre and photography major in college, it was time to pick up my camera and start shooting my fellow actor friends."

Before the digital revolution of our day and age when photographers shot in black and white film, there was only a handful of truly successful photographers shooting the entertainment industry. Eventually, this all changed. Through word of mouth, Howar began receiving more and more attention. She began to receive requests from agents and managers to work with their clients.

"I've been behind the lens ever since," Howar said. "For over twenty years now, I've been living in Santa Monica where I work out of my fabulous natural light studio just 10 blocks from the ocean and the hustle and bustle of our beach city."

Howar's style of photography is at once free-flowing, natural, and spontaneous. For Howar, a photo shoot is akin to cooking, and Howar is a fine chef indeed.

"You are constantly tasting your marinades and adding new ingredients to the sauce as you see fit along the way," Howar said. "No two people are the same, nor are two photo sessions are the same. As a studio photographer, I can control the lighting and backdrops along with most of the technical aspects, but faces, personalities, and energies are constantly changing from client to client."

People being photographed by Howar appreciate and admire both the warmth of her personality and her calming presence. Being immensely comfortable with people from all walks of life has played a key role in putting clients at ease, encouraging them to come out and play in front of the camera. People have always been Howar's forte. Howar shoots both creative and corporate portraiture as well as families, authors, models, actors, website owners, and motivational speakers.

"The way I shoot eyes is probably what stands out the most in my work," Howar said. "All that we are is revealed through the eyes so it's vital that they pop and give a glimpse into the inner life of my subjects."

Eyes have been famously called the gateways to the soul, and this fact isn't lost on Howar. Throughout the years, Howar has told countless stories through reading the tales behind the eyes of her clients. In Santa Monica there are many beautiful faces, and Howar prides herself in her ability to unleash the unique personalities that shine through these eyes.

"I take such pride in what I do and I have had enough experience to forward think when a problem may arise and avoid falling into certain traps that can limit results," Howar said. "I'm also a generous shooter, so my clients always have more to choose from than what they expected initially expected."

What separates Howar from other photographers in the area is that she has been there before. She deeply cares about the integrity of a photograph and wants the people of Santa Monica to be genuinely happy with the finished product.
