Bekker's Catering Has Five Decades of History Catering to San Diego

For over 58 years, Bekker's Catering has been the go-to for people in the San Diego area for event and party catering. Having recently finished a full kitchen and warehouse overhaul, involving remodeling and expanding, the company can now serve up to 15,000 people a day. They're equipped to handle over 1,500 events annually, and feed approximately 175,000 guests throughout those events.

In the last six years of operation, Bekker's has gone on to become one of the largest catering and event planning companies in San Diego.

Due to their recent increase in attention, the company recently added a rental equipment division and wedding and event planning and consulting.

"We work harder than anyone to make sure our customers are well cared for in anything that they need," Olga Worm, owner, said. "Our food and service are outstanding every time!"

The company's roots haven't always been based in event planning and catering, however. The Worm family began its early days as restaurant owners, when Dale and Betty Worm opened Roadside Bar BQ in 1958. After 20 years, the family decided to continue on, launching a new restaurant, Bekker's Bar-BQ, just three miles down the road from the original. This time it was much more of a family affair, with son Oscar Worm joining his father, Dale Worm, in business. As the family grew, other members became involved, including Oscar's wife Olga and their children, Lara, Marla, and Scott.

Oscar and Olga decided to sell the business in 2001, wanting to retire and travel the world. After a short retirement, they were brought back to the business when their children opted to launch West Coast Barbeque and Catering. Five years later, the family had grown the business to new heights, and they reassumed control of Bekker's Catering in order to keep up with demand.

As the catering side of the business continued to expand, the Worm family decided to focus solely on that aspect, selling the restaurant side of the family-owned business in 2012.

"Our goal is to provide our clients with amazing meals, customized personal event planning support, spectacular presentations by professional and friendly staff, and unparalleled value," Worm said.

As Worm was quick to say, each client becomes a member of the family. They're treated with the same love and respect and the staff of Bekker's Catering will work hard to ensure they are rewarded with a stress-free, delicious event regardless of budget.
