Luaus and Macaws: The Catamaran Hotel and Spa

By Elisha Neubauer

In San Diego, you don't have to go far to escape to a tropical paradise. Located on San Diego's famous Mission Bay, directly across from the Pacific Beach Shoreline, the Catamaran Hotel and Resort boasts beach views and a lush Polynesian theme throughout.

Each of the 310 rooms at the Catamaran has a private balcony or patio area. The hotel itself contains an outdoor pool and hot tub, a fitness center, and The Catamaran Spa: the only beachfront spa in San Diego. Indulge in all-natural marine and botanical treatments, then check out water sports rentals and beach front dining in Oceana Coastal Kitchen and Moray's.

If you're not from San Diego, you'll notice that the residents here enjoy spending time outside. "Despite being among the top ten largest metropolitan areas in the U.S., it offers the warmth of a small town, but the most wonderful thing about San Diego is the SoCal Lifestyle," says lisa Butler, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing at The Catamaran Hotel and Spa. "Casual and relaxed? Outdoors for everything: all year, all the time. We live and play in the sun all day and drift into the evening with oil painting-like sunsets and calm offshore breezes. Everyone is respectful of these treasures, everyone exercises, and stays healthy? and no one ever wants to leave."

According to Butler, The Catamaran Hotel and Spa epitomizes the Southern California experience. "Nestled between the shores of Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean, our guests can surf, paddleboard, swim, kayak, sail, or just bake in the sun," she explains. "We offer the coolest indoor and outdoor dining option in the area at Oceana Coastal Kitchen and Moray's, plus a great selection of wines and inventive cocktails. We also have plenty of entertaining diversions like our trained macaws or fanciful koi fish."

Location is a big plus for the hotel. Being located on the beach puts guests within easy access of not only sand, but eclectic shops, snack bars, and craft beer vendors. The Catamaran offers a wide array of activities- including sunset luaus, steam paddleboat cruises, movies on the bay, arcades, bird shows, and paddleboard yoga. And if you want a more relaxing vacation, simply grab a beach chair and unwind on the gorgeous Pacific Beach.
