Cielo Catering + Events Treats Clients Like Family

By Pamela Sosnowski

Growing up in a Jewish Chicago family provided plenty of food inspiration for Marcy Feldman. When she wasn't watching her grandfather brine barrels of cucumbers in his basement or learning how to make her nana's special chicken soup with matzo balls, she was indulging in the Windy City's specialties, hot dogs and deep-dish pan pizza. Today she shares her love of food with others via her own Thousand Oaks-based catering company, Cielo Catering + Events, but has not forgotten her roots.

"Not a day goes by without thinking of my grandparents and my family legacy," she said. "My passion for cooking and entertaining stemmed from my nana Millie's Jewish deli and her comforting specialties. This love for sharing my family favorites is what I continue to bring to my catering services. To me food is meant to be more than simply eaten; it is about creating the experience."

Cielo was launched in 2014 and in a few short years has amassed many glowing testimonials from impressed clients. The team's mission is to provide clients with exceptional service and innovative cuisine.

Menus are formed using the freshest ingredients, seasonal produce, and meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. The company can provide everything from crudités to themed stations including a sushi buffet and everything in between for any type of event. Indoor food trucks can also provide guests with a food truck experience indoors, serving burgers, tacos, barbecue, and more. Menus are completely customizable to fit everyone's dietary restrictions and preferences, and a special kosher division is dedicated to serving only kosher meals and ingredients.

During holidays such as Chanukah, Cielo rolls out special menus that are suitable for events, or a family that needs a night off from cooking. The Chanukah menu relies on Feldman family favorites such as her grandmother's chicken soup, braised short ribs, and potato latkes with spiced pear-apple sauce.

After honing her cooking skills under her family's guidance, Feldman then planned thousands of weddings, mitzvahs, fundraisers and other events as a catering manager, first with a Los Angeles-based caterer followed by employment with a Santa Monica hotel.

"With all this great experience and expertise gained in my culinary journey, I decided it was time to start my own catering business," she said. "I had a desire to provide a personalized celebration along with 'my style' to every event. Starting Cielo Catering + Events has given me the opportunity to be my own boss, be creative and bring joy to all our clients!"

Cielo can also provide decor and props for an event to give it that special touch or match a theme. Her staff has helped give a bar mitzvah a "farm fresh" theme with the featured dishes presented on wooden crates, and created a "sweet" theme for a bat mitzvah, complete with a candy bar, specially designed cake pops, and desserts. According to Feldman, no request is too big and she prides herself on delivering a custom experience for each client.

"Our dedication and passion is to deliver an unforgettable event to all our clients," she said. "We promise the sky's the limit!"
