Eat Right With DJ's Catering

By Keith Donaldson

Located in Ventura, DJ's Catering has been serving up the best type of food: comfort food. With a unique take on the classics, DJ's Catering never fails to deliver. Owner Doug Biggs took some time to answer our questions.

What first inspired you to open DJ's Catering? How long have you been in business?

We, my wife and I, started in March of 1991 and our nearing our 28th year in business. I've loved to cook ever since the 4th grade when my teacher brought in a portable cooktop and taught us how to make Rice Krispie Treats in class. It was amazing to me how one could make something so good, with simple ingredients and a little effort.

I worked for a butcher shop in high school and college where I learned how to cut meat and more importantly, how to cook everything we sold in the market. When I graduated college, with a degree in economics, but more of a love for cooking than for banking, it was an easy decision to start a catering company. I've never looked back since then.

How would you describe the style of food you usually offer on your catering menus?

I would describe our cuisine as high-quality comfort food. We always look to keep our menus simple yet delicious, without ever compromising on the quality of the ingredients we use- especially with meats, given my background in the butcher shops.

What is your personal favorite menu item you offer and why?

My favorite menu item is our wood-fired Tri-Tip. We have our own secret spice rub and grill it over a real wood fire. With our aged mid-west beef, it's a great entrée to pair with fish, chicken, a vegetarian pasta and any side dish.and offer a one-stop shop for food and event equipment such as tables, chairs, linens, china, and glassware.

Why do you think someone should choose DJ's for their catering needs? We strive to earn and maintain our excellent reputation through dedicated service to our clients as well as our community in general.
