We provide constant oversight of all our work, as well as regular updates with a strong emphasis on client control and satisfaction. At the end, we leave the space, transformed, clean and ready to use, as our hundreds of satisfied customers can attest to. Our services are including kitchens, bathrooms, additions, exterior/interior paint, patio enclosures and covers, and total home renovation.

What are some of the most popular renovations for homes in Southern California?

According to cost vs. value report of 2014, here are Remodeling's top projects. You'll notice that these are not ambitious, vanity jobs. All are projects that replace worn or aged home components, bring parts of the home up-to-date and/or add living space without expanding the home' footprint:

Replacing exterior siding, Replacing an entry door, A midrange kitchen remodel, A midrange bathroom remodeling, Garage door replacement, A new wood deck, and Upscale vinyl replacement windows.

What are a few of the biggest mistakes that a contractor can make on a home renovation or addition?

A few of the biggest mistakes contractors are doing while approaching a new project is beginning with poor communication. Some will not listen to all of their client requests, being unable to address clients sensitivities and special needs that are a part of every project Some will underbid the work and create a huge financial burden on the client at a later stage. Once the bidding error is becoming more clear and effective, the client is hit with notorious extra charges.

Other contractors will take too many projects than they can handle, forcing them to use a fire extinguisher to put off the flames of angry clients, while others will use an unskilled workers which will result in a disaster the closer they get to the finish stage of the project

Is there anything that homeowners can do to help prevent those mistakes?

There are definitely things that homeowners can do in order to protect themselves and prevent mistakes down to minimum while in the process of choosing a contractor. The most important to my opinion are:

-Be clear about your budget -Never go with the first estimate even and especially when it sounds too good to be true -Choosing a contractor after an intensive research that will always include reading reviews, talking to at least one or two references and better visiting a completed project to see the finishes and talk to a fellow home owner in person, checking the license on the CSLB official web site for license status, complaint disclosure and proof of workers compensation and liability insurance -Make sure city permits are pulled for the proper work -Keeping quiet when you have concerns. Ask questions and research if needed. All the information is available today on the Internet and is very easy to get. -Make sure to ask for a guaranteed completion date and have it included in the contract -Make sure to follow the payment schedule you signed on in your contract, with no deviation -Try to expect the unexpected to the best of your ability

Do you have any advice for hiring the right contractor to do your home renovation/addition?

In the custom kitchen business which I am coming from, we have a phrase we are using that will answer this question best: "Measure twice, cut once." Homeowners must not rush into making decisions and should verify all the details twice and more before making one. Especially when we realize that most if not all projects are not born this morning but instead they are ideas that were thought of for a longer time period before the homeowner decided to move forward with them. With that said, there are two major components vital for the success of a project.

Price will be one of them, though not always the most important. Once the homeowner was able to identify the price range of the work he/she is planning to do (by getting few estimates and research as mentioned before), price is put aside and the homeowner can concentrate on the second component of "who am I the most comfortable to work with?" The answer to this question will be generically answered by spending the time with the few runners, thus getting to the best person for the job, through a process of elimination.
