Your Guide To Building a Greener Home: An Interview with Healthy Eco Home

Please describe a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

At Healthy Eco Home, we guide our clients in creating beautiful, healthy, eco-friendly, energy efficient homes and work spaces using a holistic approach based on over 22 years of Building Science and Building Performance principles & training. We provide comprehensive services from consulting and inspections through design and turnkey construction. We are constantly researching the latest products and technologies to provide our clients with accurate information about their choices.

What is the importance of utilizing green, eco-friendly building practices?

Just as our natural environment requires a crucial balance of electrical, chemical, and biological components to function properly, so do our built environments. Humans thrive in environments with clean, fresh air, and a range of temperatures and humidity. By creating balanced, energy efficient spaces, free of toxins and electromagnetic pollution, we not only provide a healthy environment, and we have also made choices that are good for the planet as well.

What types of things are inspected in the Building Performance assessment?

A Home Energy Assessment is a comprehensive holistic analysis of your home's energy efficiency, using Thermography and other state of the art equipment, to analyze how and where energy is being used or lost. It also includes looking at areas where indoor air quality and comfort levels can be improved.

How can this help my home become more energy efficient?

An Energy Assessment will properly diagnose the real problems providing a prioritized roadmap for making home improvements of most value. The initial focus will be on specific areas that will save the most money on utility bills, and create clean, comfortable, healthy spaces.

Will green building materials last longer than other materials?

We select green building materials based on a life cycle analysis, with longevity and durability being key components to sustainability. Many green building techniques are targeted to improve weather resistance therefore avoiding damage from moisture problems, allowing components to last longer. Proper maintenance is a factor that affects the life of all building materials.

What can an Energy Upgrade do for my home? (and my wallet?)

An energy upgrade will conserve natural energy resources and reduce greenhouse gases, make your home more comfortable in all seasons, improve the air quality inside your home improving your health and wellbeing. The impact on your wallet will be, of course, to save money by lowering your utility bills, but the surprising result for many people is that it also saves money on health care costs.
