Building a Space That Reflects Your Personal Style: An Interview with Kitchen & Bath Werks

Please describe a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

We are a general contractor since 1993, or 20 years. We have specialized in kitchen and bath remodeling including room additions, and all types of flooring. We are different in that we own our own cabinet and stone shops which give us a lot of control of quality and job performance. We have over 450 projects behind us. The Werks concept is that we have a team of journeyman professionals who specialize and work only in their trade. In other words, you are getting expertise on every aspect of the job. We also strive to put "POP" into all our design projects.

What is your position at Kitchen & Bath Werks?

I am the President of the company.

What type of remodeling projects should I consider as the holidays approach?

Non-intrusive projects such as paint, minor repairs, flooring. Major remodeling should wait until after the New Year. Unfinished projects during holidays add stress and disgruntlement to an already very busy time of the year.

With so many selections, what are some ways you help your clients decide what fits with their home?

We ask the customer a lot of questions. We also use pictures which helps those who are more visual in deciding what is right for them.

How do you make sure the clients' space reflects their personal style?

We often ask first, "what do you not like about your kitchen or bath?" Form and Function need to be considered when doing a major remodel. The process of elimination works for a lot of clients. Then we can ask, "What do you like about your home?" Those two questions helps us direct the client into what will make them happy for a long time.

Do you think you hold an advantage throughout the remodeling process considering you are so knowledgeable about the products in your showrooms?

Our advantage comes from experience of over 450 jobs in 13 years. Every year new products are introduced into the remodeling business. Some are great, some are just a fad. When tend to steer clients toward long lasting quality and performance.

What makes kitchen remodeling different than the renovation of other areas in my home?

The kitchen is the heartbeat of the home. People gravitate to the kitchen. A kitchen that has "POP" will energize the entire family. The style and flavor of the kitchen sets the tone of the living space.

What are some things I can include in my bathroom renovation that will really increase the value of my home?

Quality tile work, frameless glass systems, lighting, soaker tubs all add value. They add design and function to new bathroom.
