Mondo Taco: One Great Taco at a Time

By Elisha Neubauer

After spending thirty years in the hospitality business, Sam Spector wanted to do something a little different. While he enjoyed managing and guiding others in their business growth, he wanted to take the reins himself- and the inventive Mondo Taco was born. "I wanted to create a dining experience where people could have a variety of options in a fun casual atmosphere," explains Spector. "I built Mondo Taco with the purpose of creating one great taco at a time for one great guest at a time."

According to its slogan, Mondo Taco is "Tacos Gone Wild," allowing customers to try a variety of worldwide flavors in the convenience of a tortilla. Thai, Indian, Cajun, French, Italian, and Japanese options are all offered in a flour or wheat tortilla wrap or in a bowl.

It was offering these international favorites in a tortilla that helped put Mondo Taco on the map. "Most taco shops are some version of Mexican food," Spector tells us. "Mondo Taco is not about serving Mexican food. We offer familiar cuisines from around the globe." With his extensive background in the hospitality business, Spector knew that he had to appease everyone ? not just one genre of patrons ? and used this international palate to do so. "That's what makes us unique," he remarks. "Hand-held international comfort food, where any palate can pleased with a great variety of flavors and textures in each and every visit."

According to Spector, Mondo Taco also sets itself apart with its tortillas. "Our homemade tortillas also include gluten-free and paleo options," states Spector. "Most taco shops use flimsy store-bought tortillas. Ours are more pancake-like in texture: softer and thicker." Mondo taco also offers, flour or wheat tortilla wraps and bowls as well

In addition to mouthwatering menu options, Mondo Taco offers off-site catering and an exclusive happy hour - "Spin the Wheel, Get the Deal" - which features $4 craft pints, wine by the glass, margaritas and mimosas, and $12 craft pitchers from 4-7 pm daily.

Located in Santa Monica, Mondo Taco is open seven days a week from 11am to 10pm.
