Mosaic Offers Yoga for Physical Strength and Spiritual Growth

By S. Mathur

With programs in health, leadership and spiritual development, Mosaic is a yoga studio that offers yoga and much more. The mission is to awaken and uplift the consciousness of human beings and thus, the world, one Soul at a time, and yoga is the path to the goal.

"We realize there are many different paths to exploring deeper meaning in life," owner Melissa Love said, "so we strive to hold an open, neutral space that encourages freedom and authenticity in your practice and in your heart. Our yoga classes appeal to all levels as we know that yoga is a journey of awakening, not a destination that is reached."

Many members find Mosaic through yoga, and enjoy the personal and welcoming atmosphere at the studio. Love was inspired to open Mosaic while living on Nantucket Island. Love is also a Reiki master and found her own way to spiritual development through her struggles with anger, abuse and cancer.

"I was longing for a community of peers who were interested in pursuing spiritual growth and development via the practice of yoga while also living 'normal' lives, working, raising children and enjoying the pleasures of life," she said, "My husband and I moved back to San Diego in 2010 and opened MOSAIC In June 2010, with our best friend."

The studio practices vinyasa, yin and hot yoga classes. Classes in both heated and non-heated environments are offered. The instructors are kind, knowledgeable and hands on. Yoga is seen as the path to physical strength and flexibility as well as spiritual growth and exploration. Within the framework of classical yoga, teachers work with students to improve their physical, mental, and spiritual health.

At Mosaic, programs and workshops on the themes of wisdom, soul and health are focused on leadership development, spiritual development and natural healing. Health services include metabolic typing, nutritional coaching and holistic health consulting. Food and air, rest and movement, environment, resources and stressors are all considered on the way to achieving physical and spiritual well being.

The 200-hour teacher training program also has many unique elements. Besides vinyasa, alignment, philosophy and anatomy, the YTT program includes leadership development and soulful reflection.

"The course content is divided into the three main subjects: Science, Philosophy and Art," Love said, "We believe that each time we step onto our mats, we bring our life to our asana practice. Our Teacher Training program teaches you how to transform your practice and your life."

In a few short years, Mosaic's unique approach has developed a loyal following and classes are very much in demand. Many members discover Mosaic after shopping for the perfect yoga experiment, and find it to be the perfect yoga community.
