Nadine Bosurgi Photography Captures Real Moments And Connections

By S. Mathur

Nadine Bosurgi loves photographing babies, and it shows. She began with taking pictures of her own kids, and hasn't looked back. Her passion for photography began in high school, when she recalls printing her own black and white pictures in the darkroom. From there, it was an almost seamless transition to setting up her own studio in Santa Monica when the opportunity came.

"When my oldest son was a baby I couldn't put my camera down and started pursuing portrait photography professionally," she said. "I have three young kids myself, am a hospital approved newborn photographer and am trained in newborn safety (as well as toddler wrangling)."

As well as newborns, Bosurgi does maternity, Mommy and Me and family portraits. The portraits show, with a minimum of props, the love and connections that bind together generations. How would she describe her style?

"Modern, pure and natural with a touch of whimsy," she said. "I aim to capture real moments and connection. I offer both lifestyle and fine art posed sessions."

Clients notice also that she has that intangible quality essential for taking great photographs: the ability to make her subjects feel at ease, in order to capture their natural expressions.

She also understands the stresses and demands that come with pregnancy and parenthood, and photo shoots are run smoothly and professionally. She can even arrange newborn photo shoots in the hospital, when babies are just a day old. That's because the newborn stage passes very quickly, and it's important to Bosurgi and her clients to create photographic memories of the first 48 hours.

As well as hospitals, Bosurgi will travel to homes and other locations like botanical gardens, parks, daycares and even the beach for photo shoots. Clients appreciate her professionalism in selecting locations and settings, and her advice on wardrobe, styling and make up. They can also choose to schedule their sessions at Bosurgi's studio in downtown LA. The pictures are classic and timeless, heirlooms that will be passed on down the generations.

As a self confessed baby whisperer, Bosurgi knows exactly how to calm them and how much time to allow for each session. Above all, the babies are loved, and the portraits convey this clearly. Many families return to Bosurgi for new events, giving her a chance to see her subjects grow.

"I love meeting new moms and families and seeing my little clients grow up," she said.
