After planning her own wedding a decade ago, Dalina Klan says she realized two things: how much she loves planning weddings, and how much she overspent on her own. She decided to open up her own wedding planning business and is now the owner of Santa Barbara's Once in a Lifetime, a wedding and event coordinating company. She focuses on helping other brides have a beautiful Santa Barbara wedding, without overspending.
"When you work full-time, have a family and you are trying to plan a wedding, it's a lot to handle," Klan said. "I love helping brides and grooms be smart with their money while helping them figure out their vision of what they want on their wedding day. Some couples know what they want from the get-go, and others may need a little help to figure out what will be best for them [and] their guests, and budget."
Klan can help a bride and groom determine what type of wedding they want, exploring formal and casual weddings and all that comes with both options. For dining, Klan says there are lots of ways to accommodate a large number of guests in any wedding environment. Some couples opt for formal dining that features a long dinner so they can visit with each guest. Some go for a buffet or food truck to hurry the evening onto the dance floor. Klan also says there are unique dining options, like having In-N-Out delivered via Uber.
"As a Santa Barbara native, I am familiar with most of the local venues and vendors in town," Klan said. "That knowledge comes in handy, especially when working with couples who are not from the area. I'll get a call from a father-of-the-bride who needs to find hotels or vacation houses; or a mother-of-the-groom who wants assistance with a rehearsal dinner."
Klan says she lives and breathes all things weddings at all hours of the day and truly enjoys being part of a person's special day. She strives to make each wedding as unique to the couple as possible. From weddings on the beach in Santa Barbara to mountainside weddings outside of the area, she takes on every challenge and runs with it.
"I want to ensure the couple's wishes are followed through and make sure they are able to really have fun and 'seize the day' without feeling tied down to all the details," Klan said. "The bottom line is each couple is different so each wedding is going to be different."
Klan can be hired as far in advance before a wedding as a couple desires. She takes on the role of coordinator, taking care of everything a couple needs and acting as a sounding board. She can also be hired for individual service, including ceremony supervision, contract negotiations and more. She offers a complimentary 30-minute consultation for clients.
