What are some of the different types of policies available?

What does the average home insurance policy typically cover?

Home insurance will cover your home and personal property against fire, malicious mischief, theft, water damage, and lightning. Policy will not cover regular wear and tear.

Do most insurance companies require home inspections? What different type of home inspections are there?

Yes, insurance companies will inspect your home when policy is purchased. They typically inspect only the outside of the house. If the home is large or if the requested coverage is above a certain limit, a high value inspection is completed by the insurance company. High value home inspections are more thorough and require the inspector to enter the home. Inspectors not only look at the overall condition of the home, but make sure the home is insured up to value.

What are some factors that influence the rate on my home insurance policy?

Cost of the policy is based on, age of dwelling, zip code, amount of coverage (calculated based on square footage and style and quality of home), and also prior claims.

What are my options if I want to cancel my home insurance policy?

All cancellations and changes need to be in writing and signed. Make sure a policy has been replaced prior to cancelling your current policy.

What are some common claim concerns that may arise with my policy?

Most claims are caused by fire or water. We do see some theft and vandalism claims as well.
