Rush Air Sports Is the Ultimate Indoor Playground

By Pamela Sosnowski

Most children love visiting their local playground to have fun and use up excess energy, but the weather doesn't always cooperate for outdoor activity. Parents in the Bakersfield area, however, have another option: Rush Air Sports. The 40,000-square-foot indoor athletic center contains wall-to-wall trampolines, dodgeball courts, a foam pit and other equipment for kids of all ages to explore while staying fit.

General Manager Katie Corrigan said the inspiration behind opening Rush Air Sports was the desire to help kids get the exercise they need in an engaging, safety-oriented environment.

"One of the owners said, back before we opened, that he was motivated by wanting a place where his kids could get good physical activity and have fun all year round," she said. "Nothing like this existed back when he was younger, and he wanted to be able to extend the opportunity to the rest of his community."

Although Rush Air Sports has only been open for two years, it has become an enormously popular local destination--so much that reservations are strongly recommended for all guests. New features include the ninja course, an obstacle course that helps build upper body strength, and hamster balls, giant transparent inflatable balls that are controlled from the inside by a participant. Other amenities include slam dunk basketball, climbing sticks, and a toddler court designed to help the smallest guests gain coordination and balance.

Adults can get in on the fun, too. There's no age limit for the trampolines and during family night events everyone is encouraged to participate. Non-participating guests may enjoy access to free WiFi and big screen televisions in the lobby. Although guests are not allowed to bring their own food from home, there are snacks and beverages available to purchase.

In addition to its regular daily operating hours, the facility hosts events such as "Rush After Dark" (R.A.D.) that take place every Friday evening from 9 to 11 PM.

"We plug in black lights all around the park and at exactly 9 PM we shut off the lights and our DJ pumps up the volume," Corrigan said. "It's two hours of black light disco ball fun. This event is for ages 13 and up but if you have younger ones we have the same event on Saturday nights for all ages called Cosmic Rush."

A friendly trained staff, regularly inspected equipment, and basic safety rules help ensure a safe environment at Rush Air Sports. All participants must wear specially designed, provided socks for using the trampolines, and no hats are allowed while using any of the equipment. Only closed toe shoes are permitted when using the ninja course.

Rush Air Sports can also accommodate birthday parties, fundraising events, sleepovers, and more.

"We have party hosts that take care of everything so the host has a worry-free event that they can actually enjoy," Corrigan said. "We are fun for everyone!"
