What defines a good family-friendly city or town? It can vary, but for most it means an area with other families, great schools, plenty of sports and arts activities for youth, a safe environment with low crime rates, affordable housing, and good amenities including shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. These communities have the basics to provide your family with an outstanding quality of life in LA County.

Glendora

Glendora lies 23 miles east of downtown Los Angeles and has a population of around 50,000. It is a more upscale community with a consistently high performing school district. Glendora has its own police force, and boasts a very low crime rate. Residences span bungalows and ranch style houses to grand style mansions and estate homes. With an extensive parks and recreation program there are plenty of activities for kids including the popular Camp Cahuilla summer kids' day camp. An affluent community, it has all the amenities to provide a high quality of family living.

Alhambra

Alhambra was originally founded as a suburb of LA. It was incorporated as a city on July 11, 1903. Promoted as the "city of homes" many of the city's homes have historical significance. Styles include Craftsman, Bungalow, Spanish Mediterranean, Spanish Colonial, Italian Beaux-Arts and Arts & Craft homes providing a rich architectural tapestry. The schools are high performing and there are plenty of family friendly activities, sports, shopping, restaurants, recreational opportunities, and cultural events making this a sought after family community.

Arcadia

Arcadia is well known for beautiful neighborhoods and its warm character. The city places great emphasis on preserving "green spaces" and has been designated a Tree City for 17 years straight. The Arcadia Unified School district is one of the most highly thought of districts in California. The city has very high quality medical care as well as an excellent array of recreational and leisure activities to fit all ages. Often referred to as the "jewel" among southern California communities Arcadia is a top family-friendly city.

West Covina

West Covina features 6 award winning public school districts and also provides a broad array of private school options. There are many colleges and universities nearby as well. The West Covina public school districts are the recipients of many state and national awards. A full service community, West Covina has a very high standard of living with diverse dining and shopping and median to luxury housing options, and 5 medical facilities. Rich with cultural and arts activities as well as recreational activities West Covina is a fantastic family friendly city.

San Gabriel

San Gabriel became the heart and soul of the LA region with the founding of the Mission San Gabriel Archangel in 1771. It has always been and continues to be a place of cultural diversity where people of different cultures, beliefs and values come together. San Gabriel was incorporated as a city in 1913. San Gabriel schools consistently rank well above state and national averages and ae recognized as California Distinguished Schools. School facilities have been recently enhanced with the completion of several key capital improvement projects. The community provides many family friendly activities and is an area rich in culture and the arts providing a very high quality of life for its residents.
