Whip Yourself into Shape with The Studio on Palm

By Marina I. Jokic

A two-year-old enterprise, The Studio on Palm has made a name for itself in the Chula Vista community, welcoming customers from Coronado, the Silver Strand, and Imperial Beach among others. The fitness instructors are certified by accredited national organizations and are vetted experts in their respective fields.

Offering a wide range of fitness classes like Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, Pilates, and Cardio Rebounding as well as massage, teacher and private training, the studio has competitive prices and a friendly, community-oriented atmosphere. Owner Katherine Alfredo believes that consistency of effort and a balanced and diverse workout are the key ingredients to success.

"We mix it up and cross train because we want the body to always stay guessing, always be improving," she said. "We love HIIT, interval training, [and] all levels [are] able [and] welcome."

The Barre is another hugely popular class, a traditional take on ballet fitness. Those looking for a bit more cardio in their training should try the boxing lessons, which add just the right amount of oomph to their daily routine. The hot Vinyasa yoga is another challenging and dynamic workout that delivers a healthy amount of sweat, while Yoga Sculpt utilizes bands and weights to tone and sculpt the body. Unlike many other similar establishments, The Studio on Palm has fun classes tailored especially for kids, like their aerial yoga.

"We believe it's just as important for us to know who you are as for you to know us," Alfredo said. "[Instructors] are skillful at creating strategies to focus your mind, effort, and ability based on your interests and level of commitment."

This custom-tailored approach involves one-on-one meetings before class to assess your physical needs and goals and to answer questions or offer modifications to your workout.

"They inspire and motivate students to reach peak performance and never plateau," Alfredo said. "Most of all, they care and are here for you."

The concept behind The Studio on Palm was born out of a desire to foster a thriving yoga community on Imperial Beach. Known for its penchant for a healthy lifestyle, the Chula Vista area and its surroundings were the ideal location for just such a studio. Alfredo comes from a military family so she knows discipline. She applies her know-how by helping people reach their fitness goals.

The Studio on Palm is not an average gym. Situated blocks from the ocean and featuring a bright, airy space with large windows and lush plants, the studio beckons people to come inside. Refreshing beverages, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, a retail space with athletic wear and fitness equipment, and a massage therapy room to restore tired muscles are just some of the many amenities that The Studio on Palm offers. The studio's proximity to the ocean gives people a front row seat to some of the most stunning sunsets during their workouts.

"A warm and welcoming team of instructors make you feel like you've been friends for years," Alfredo said.
