Your Friendly Neighborhood Tavern Now Comes with Bowling Lanes

By S. Mathur

An hour or two at the bowling lanes, followed by happy hour in a friendly tavern and ending with a well cooked dinner of comfort food - for many people, that's the definition of an evening out with friends. At Tavern+Bowl, they can find it all at one location. With comfort food and retro bowling lanes in the same location, Tavern+Bowl creates a family-friendly the-way-things-were ambience.

Chief Executive Officer Daniel Hurd says that "Tavern+Bowl has taken the concept of the neighborhood tavern to the next level by incorporating state-of-the-art bowling lanes. Unlike your average bar/restaurant, Tavern+Bowl provides our patrons with a physical activity that promises its participants an exciting alternative to an otherwise mundane social scene."

The goal was to "create a come-as-you-are atmosphere that would appeal to a very diverse demographic. In the hospitality industry, Tavern+Bowl stands out amongst its counterparts for numerous reasons, namely due to the fact that it provides its patrons with the opportunity to participate in a contemporarily spun retro sport while maintaining an unpretentious, family-friendly atmosphere," he adds. It was a deliberate choice to focus on sophisticated food and sports rather than nightlife, creating a distinctive atmosphere.

With ten bowling lanes and hundreds of TVs scattered throughout the space, it's also a good place to watch sports events with a group of friends. Located in the heart of the Eastlake Design District shopping complex, the former industrial space offers an impressive amount of room for a party. Children and minors do need to be accompanied by someone over 21. And it doesn't hurt to have a reservation, most nights.

Putting together the two elements of a classic evening out with friends - a neighborhood tavern and bowling lanes - has been a hugely successful idea. Bowling, says Hurd, is "an undiscriminating sport, bowling requires little-to-no prior training and can be enjoyed by young and old, male and female, singles and families alike." It probably helps guests work up a thirst and an appetite for the great food waiting for them, as well.

The menu is inspired by Southern Californian food, with a gourmet twist. Hurd says that the focus on good cooking is not accidental: "Ultimately, we strive for recognition not only as an outstanding entertainment venue but a renowned eatery that offers American cuisine suitable for even the most critical palate." The menu has all the classic pub food favorites, with wings, dips, burgers, pizza and salmon, chicken and steak entrees. Goat cheese, asparagus and mahi mahi provide small touches of the unexpected and delicious.

The versatility of the food means that Tavern+Bowl appeals to every demographic, and that makes it a great venue for birthday parties, corporate events, holiday parties, and other social occasions. Bowling lanes can also be reserved ahead of time.
