Tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

The S. Sanders Company has been in business for over 60 years, founded by Stephen Sanders. We strived to keep same outstanding quality and service that Mr. Sanders taught. We are an independent agency so we may market a customer's insurance to various companies. The S. Sanders Company writes auto, homeowners, boat and RV, business, bonds, life and health insurance.

In your opinion, what is the most important thing for a homeowner to know about home insurance coverage?

A few important things homeowners should know about homeowner's policy is that these are intended for rebuilding property due to a "covered loss" and not "repairs and maintenance" of homes. Be aware of policy limitations and exclusions and deductible should a loss occur

How would you define having the right home insurance policy?

I would define having the right home insurance policy with having a knowledgeable insurance agent and asking lots of questions.

What is the first step people can take to make sure they are adequately covered?

The first step people can take is make sure they are adequately covered is to contact their insurance agent and review the "Insurance Agreement/Policy Specimen" in its entirety.

Can you briefly describe what replacement cost coverage is?

Replacement cost coverage is intended to provide for the cost of repair or replace the damaged or destroyed dwelling without a deductible for physical depreciation.

Are there certain types of coverage that homeowners in Southern California typically under or over insure?

Homeowner's typically under insure jewelry. Homeowners assume jewelry items are covered under Coverage C (personal property). Yes that is correct; however, the insurance carriers have a max. limit per item per piece unless specifically added and a premium charge for the items. Many clients overlook this additional coverage.
